Hello&Goodbye
April 2018

This is a spatial typographic design project on ArtCenter campus. I got a long and narrow hall way on the second floor, it is the connection of internal and external space, I found the inspiration from the space structure and decided to play with its double functions: when people come into the building, they will see a giant and powerful Hello, when they leave, there is a friendly Goodbye waiting for them.

Because the hallway is long and narrow, I couldn’t use common ways of projector for tracing, thus I went back to the ancient way of drawing—scenography—to illustrate the letters. Those letters stretch gradually when people walk closer and closer, which created a unique visual experience.
